5 Reasons to start your own business

My journey running a business has been very rewarding, even though I don’t consider myself the classic “entrepreneur type”. I started my journey out of a difficult life moment but I still made it work! You can read more about it here but today I just want to give you a bit of inspiration if you are also wondering if you should start turning your hobby into a profitable business.

It's incredible how quickly you can develop your skills and establish yourself in your desired market if you put your energy and focus towards that. I am very proud that my choices and life circumstances led me to this path and that's why I would like to share my experience with you here.

Now, let me share with you my top 5 most important reasons for self-employment:

1. Stay flexible

Who is the boss? YOU are the boss! You get to decide when and where you are going to work. You get to choose your clients and partners. You get to define which tasks you want to do and which ones to delegate. You can decide the tone of voice, as well as the dress code, deadlines, priorities and the opening hours of your business… you can create your own healthy work environment. You also get to decide what success means to you and be unapologetically yourself.

2. Get recognized

Guess What!? You will get clients and connect with your audience for being who you are! Yes, that’s right!

And back to the reality check: Raise your hands if you ever felt like having to “play a role” when working for someone else? I know I have - and I know how heavy that was on my mental health.

The funny thing is that the things I was “hiding” while working as an employee were the things I needed to show more of when working for myself. That gave me confidence and this aspect alone makes my entrepreneurial journey an experience worth living.

3. Build your network

You don’t have to do it all by yourself or feel lonely! You will not only have great customers but also make new friends with colleagues and competitors (why not?). You can develop great partnerships, work with mentors and also be a mentor yourself!

Building a personal relationship with others is not only fun but also simplifies communication and all decision-making processes, while creating trust and freedom. Overall, you can network online and offline and meet great people who share common passions with you.

4. Take responsibility

What a great feeling to be responsible for all decisions, no matter if something goes well or not. It is up to you to make things better! I never thought I would love being in this position, but it does feel really good! A great side effect of running your own business is that you can start making more money as you would have working for someone else. I know it can be risky (the same goes for a “regular” job) but the rewards can also be very interesting. Give it a try! Nothing is stopping you from doing what you love!

5. Give back to the community

Not only you will provide massive value to your customers, but you will be able to hire other professionals, donate money or time to causes that are close to your heart. You can improve your industry and set great standards. You can be the kind of boss you never had or the kind of service provider you appreciate the most. You can set an example and the world needs what you have to offer!

The feeling of putting many ideas into action is awesome!

Now I'm really curious to hear what you have to say about this! Do you share the same opinion or have you had completely different experiences? I look forward to your feedback!

Kind regards,

Ana Luiza
