Since I started getting involved with DEI topics, accessibility has become one of my main focuses (alongside gender equity and inclusion). In this case study, I would like to share my process of becoming a certified accessibility professional and how I was able to kickstart conversations and implement trainings around the topic for a large scale digital product. Even though the client showed resistance, my team and I were able to embed A11y best practices leading to a better quality product overall and a more inclusive product as a natural consequence of that.

Our organisation was looking forward to motivating colleagues to learn more about accessibility, as this is not only the right thing to do but also it is a topic and capability that will be increasingly relevant in the future. I led a study group with international colleagues facilitating knowledge sharing sessions and encouraging certification enrolment. The learnings from the study group allowed be to implement accessibility trainings for our client - who was still reluctant due to full backlogs and other high priority tasks. We managed to slowly introduce the topic, conducted surveys uncovering the current potential in the account and established our trainings. At the end, not only new joiners appreciated the initiative but everyone else profited from it as well, including BAs and Engineers.
Led the European Study Group for the CPACC/WAS from the IAAP. Setting the example and taking the exam, inspiring others to do the same.
Onboarding Training for over 90 members of the project incl. POs, BA, Devs, XDs. More than 70% of our expected attendance estimates.
